Scenes from penguinland

December 07, 2017/ Abby McBride

The second chapter of my National Geographic series Voyage of the Yellow-eyed Penguin: Penguins Wanted, actually involves penguins. Additional visual below.

My first penguin-monitoring station on a subantarctic island (I was pretty stoked to see four yellow-eyed penguins in four hours). Certainly can’t post this without acknowledging @edinzphoto’s amazing camo/neon combo gear loan (thanks, E!)

Back from the subantarctics!

November 20, 2017/ Abby McBride

My very good reason for not posting in the past few weeks: I was sailing 300 miles south from the southern tip of New Zealand to the subantarctic Auckland Islands. Now that I’m back in range of internet, stay tuned for stories about this utterly surreal voyage...

Mad dash to Dunedin

November 02, 2017/ Abby McBride

I'll be offline for the next two weeks! I just dashed down to Dunedin to catch a boat to the subantarctic islands, where I will help with yellow-eyed penguin surveys.

On the car ferry to the South Island! Last-minute roadtrip to Dunedin, where I’ll catch a boat down to some subantarctic islands.
